AIF Annual Report 09-10

Dear McIntire Community:

I am pleased to take the reins of the Oceanus Alternative Investment Club from Ryan Yin this spring. I am very excited both for the opportunity to lead my fellow peers who are interested in broadening their exposure to various investing strategies and for the chance to establish the club among the elite of McIntire organizations. Since our clubs inception two years ago, we have successfully recruited and retained top talent from all of the Universities’ great schools including engineering, the college, and of course the McIntire School of Commerce. With an eye to the future and the clubs sustainability moving forward in mind, the next year will shed light on whether our club is here to stay among the best that McIntire has to offer or dissolve like many other great ideas that have preceded us.

To start next year, the club will be formally changing its name to the Alternative Investment Fund at McIntire. We feel as an organization that in order to take the next steps towards successfully winning the trust of investors a change in name to one that more formally outlines the clubs intentions was appropriate. With respect to those who came before us and founded the organization that we have come to enjoy and cherish we will continue on under our new title.
The next year’s significance is and will continue to be at the forefront of each members mind. In order to focus our energy on concrete initiatives that will enable us to gain the trust of investors, I will lay out the funds three primary goals for next year. The first goal is to establish a firm and concrete investing process that the fund will religiously follow in the future enabling us to present a clear and concise strategy to investors as well as formally organize our trade generation process. Second, the club will seek to trade and maintain a portfolio of $100,000 and record the return generated on this invested capital. Lastly, our club will seek for an investor and the establishments of an alumni board to ensure the clubs presence at McIntire long after the current members have graduated.

Thank you for showing interest in The Alternative Investment Fund at McIntire and taking the time to read our annual report. Without the help of interested faculty and alumni this organization would cease to exist.

Sincerely,

T. Scott Law
President, the Alternative Investment Fund at McIntire
